Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the relationship between centre and periphery in the autobiographical writings of Bora Stankovic united within the title Pod Okupacijom (Under Occupation). Through the expressionist image of a city that he takes as a starting point, the writer with a pronounced social feeling shows the stratification in the space that points to the internal social polarity and antagonism between the newly formed social layers during the occupation. Elite, made up of war profiteers and bearers of political power are portrayed as extremely negative and superior to the marginal world to which the author himself belongs. Moving from the external to the internal, that is, from the image of the city and the constitution of the centre and the periphery in the spatial sense, to identifying the class differences, Stankovic from the marginal position, through a skillfully psychologized catalogue of characters gives a peculiar critique of society, which gives his prose a somewhat Orwellian tone and a rebellious social character
