Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Analysis of the issues of compliance with the rules of journalism ethics in reporting the conflict in Ukraine, in the context of journalistic codes and the specificity of extraordinary events. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The text analyzes the ethical problems faced by journalists in the context of reporting the events with due respect for the aggrieved parties and the audience. The article uses research methods common for the social sciences and humanities, including the desk research method and case study. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The starting point for the presentation of journalism ethics in crisis situations was the principles contained in the codes of ethics of journalistic associations and the study by Karol Jakubowicz “Journalist in a crisis situation”. The considerations refer to the reporting of events from the initial period of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022. RESEARCH RESULTS: Due to the dynamics and emotionality of a crisis situation, as well as competition in the media and politics market, ethical principles related to the objective presentation of events are often violated. The key is to properly portray death scenes and to respect people injured during extraordinary events. Reporting should be balanced so as not to cause panic. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The analysis of examples of reporting the crisis in Ukraine revealed frequent violations of ethical principles. One of the reasons is the great dynamics and drama of the events taking place. The purpose of the article was to raise awareness of the existence of journalistic deontology, compliance with its provisions and to serve for deeper analyzes in the future regarding the specificity of the behavior of journalists and participants of extraordinary events, including war.
