Summary/Abstract: On Golgotha, along with Christ, two robbers were crucified. One repentant, the other unrepentant. In Dostoevsky, the picture multiplies. He has many penitents. There are many unrepentant ones. And they all have their (hypostasized) voices. Robert Muzil was one of the most important voices of his era. The same can be said for Dostoevsky. Psychoanalysis was born in Musil’s world. Dostoevsky comes from a completely different world. Psychoanalysis avoids talking about repentance. The same goes for holiness. The notion of hypostasis is foreign to the spirit of psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis has always been obsessed with questions of structure, power, and meaning. The notion of hypostasis is of key importance for understanding Dostoevsky.
