Summary/Abstract: The article examines the reaction of the first generation of Bulgarian linguists after the Liberation to ideas and methodological influences originating from the University of Leipzig. The author focuses on the contribution of August Leskien and the neo-grammarians and on Wilhelm Wundt’s psychological interpretation of language. Their influence can be traced in the works of A. Theodorov-Balan, Lyubomir Miletich, Stefan Mladenov, etc.
