Summary/Abstract: In this work we explore, based on the experience of the Bulgarian Language Unit within the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU, the influence that the texts of the EU institutions have on the grammatical changes observed in Bulgarian. The focus is on three key innovations in Bulgarian grammar – constructions with noun qualitative modifier; use of personal vs. reflexive possessive pronouns; and masculinization – with the aim to defend the argument that contributions from Brussels are moderate and nuanced.
