Summary/Abstract: The issue of the relationship between lords and subjects in the early modern period has been examined in the context of Bohemia from various points of view, but certainly does not constitute a topic which has received detailed investigation. This text deals with the situation on the Červená Řečice estate, and specifically in the judicial district of Zmišovice from the 1590s until the beginning of the 18th century, i.e. at the time when the estate passed from secular lords to the administration of the Prague archbishopric, lived through the Thirty Years’ War and coped with its consequences. It deals with the legal establishment of the rights and obligations of subjects on the basis of sovereign norms, considers the control of the religious and personal life of subjects, and monitors the attitudes of the nobility towards villagers’ ownership of property and economic prosperity
