The Concept of the Jesuit Theater and its Importance in the Process of Socialization of School Youth

Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to discuss the function that Jesuit theater plays in the socialization process of school children. RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The main research problem concerns the answer to the question: what conditions must be fulfilled for the Jesuit theater to be an effective tool in the process of socialization of schoolchildren. The analytical-synthetic method of the literature on the subject was used in this paper. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article is structured as follows. In the beginning, the most important features of the Jesuit theater concept are shown. Then, the theoretical framework, in which socialization processes are analyzed in the light of the social sciences, was outlined, what finally enabled to identify the most important challenges facing Jesuit education in the context of exploiting the socialization function of theatrical activities. RESEARCH RESULTS: The presented considerations lead to conclusion that it is possible to incorporate the theatrical activity as an effective tool for the socialization of the youth in Jesuit schools. Moreover, the Jesuit model of education seems to be an adequate response to the changes caused by the processes of globalization. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The conclusions that arise from the presented analyses indicate, first of all, the complementarity of the process of education and socialization realized through the use of the tool that is the Jesuit theater. The identity of Jesuit education stems to a great extent from the adoption of a holistic vision of the person and an integral model of formation. This combination of education and theatrical activity seems to be the right recipe for the current challenges of the process of socialization of school children.
