Summary/Abstract: In the period 1906 – 1907 the Bulgarian Exarchate conducted a largescale census of the Bulgarian population in Macedonia and Edirne Thrace. Four such notebooks (“wreaths”) were compiled for the population in the town of Enidje Vardar, which are stored in the funds of the State Archives Agency. Their analysis makes it possible to trace some of the socio-demographic and anthroponymic features of these geographical areas: the growth of the Bulgarian population, its economic situation, the level of literacy of Bulgarians there and their cultural emancipation from Greek influence. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Bulgarian population slowly and gradually bettered their financial state, which helped them to build lasting national cultural and educational institutions.
