Summary/Abstract: Under the general heading of “The Challenge of Europe”, the fourth Wolfsburg Discussions took place from 28 to 30 October 1998. Dealing with questions of the consolidation and enlargement of the European Union, the event was organised by the International Partnership Initiative (I.P.I.) jointly with the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg and the Centre for the Study of Law and Economics of the University of the Saarland. The article provides a summarisation of the discussion during this conference concerning the future development of the European Union
