The aim of this article is to identify problems in the area of liquidity and profitability that may lead to bankruptcy of mining and metallurgical companies in Poland in the future. On the basis of collected and then elaborated data from financial statements ratio analysis of liquidity and profitability will be carried out and discriminant models will be built. The results will make it possible to verify the hypothesis that the mining and metallurgical industry in Poland faces liquidity and profitability problems, which may lead to the companies’ bankruptcy in the future. The conducted research proves that the determined liquidity and profitability ratios were reflected in the results of discriminant model analysis. In the situation where the ratios were higher, the discriminant models also presented higher values of the Z parameter. The study is descriptive and empirical in nature.
