Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to signal some recurrent errors in the use of the definite article by basic users of Romanian as a second language, in the context in which this morpheme of determination is considered to be assimilated in the first learning sequences, corresponding to the A1-A2 levels of linguistic competence. The methodological premises of this approach can be found in studies regarding contrastive analysis, error analysis, but also in the concept of interlanguage, developed by Larry Selinker and S.P. Corder. The applied part of the approach is based on authentic interlanguage samples selected from a corpus of discourse productions belonging to students from the Preparatory Year (levels A1-A2) and aims at the analysis and diagnosis of some recurrent errors in the use of the definite article, either its omission when its presence would be compulsory, or its occurrence in contradiction with the norm.
