Summary/Abstract: The right of defence is the cornerstone of a fair trial in which the parties enjoy certain procedural guarantees in order to find out the truth in the case and to protect the accused person from abuse by the authorities. The case law of the European Court of Human Rights provides numerous solutions regarding the application and interpretation of Article 6, paragraph 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights on the right of defence, which grants the accused the right to receive detailed information on the accusation, to have adequate time and facilities necessary for the preparation of his defence, to defend himself in person or through legal assistance, to hear the prosecution's witnesses and to obtain the ttendance of defence witnesses, as well as the right to free assistance of an interpreter.
