Summary/Abstract: The verification of an application for membership by the European Commission usually takes up to 18 months. The respective states then receive the status of candidates. This means that the EU is seriously considering accepting those countries into its ranks. But then many years can pass before the actual start of accession negotiations. The paper aims to analyze the possibility of implementing, under the current situation, of a fast-track procedure to obtain EU membership.
