Summary/Abstract: East Asian countries have consistently maintained high levels of economic growth since the 1960s. In 1993, The East Asian Miracle report described an economic boom. The report presents the result of public policies of Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. Cultural (Confucian) background in East Asia is very important to explain the improvement of the quality of life especially in China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Hong Kong. The quality of life is calculated in the Human Development Index, Quality of Life Index and Human Poverty Index.
