Summary/Abstract: In a large number, belonging to different onomastic classes, often descriptive, transliterated or translated from different languages, in different historic moments and in various confessional contexts, the biblical proper names are less or no studied in the Romanian philology. The diversity of their forms and use and their permanent reference to the ancient culture and to the phenomenon of translating the Bible into vernacular languages, are premises that have lead us in finding a suitable theory for defining and structuring the biblical proper names. Thus, we propose an approach to biblical proper names in terms of cognitive theory of categorization. The prototypical organization is culture specific and entails multiple opportunities of practice in the study of the language, being helpful in the formal and semantic structuring of the category of biblical proper names.
