Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the surfeit of measurement procedures at school in Poland and the contrasting practices of non-measurement among young people. The excessive testing in schools is discussed in the context of three aspects of the educational process: (1) the amount of activity and curricular content; (2) assessment at school; and (3) the criteria and regulations that unify pupils’ individuality. Pupils’ strategies for coping with the endless tests at school are based on relativisation, deconcentration, and giving up activities. The findings of qualitative research on pupils’ (boys’ and girls’) experiencing of senselessness at school constitute the empirical basis of this paper.
