Summary/Abstract: Anti-Korean cultural politics have mostly been researched in countries in close proximity to South Korea, but less so in other regions of the world, such as Central Asia. This paper is a textual analysis that uses combined methodologies of Political Linguistics and Propaganda Analysis in order to focus on Anti-Korean cultural politics in Kazakhstan. The study determines if the analysed text(s) presents South Korea as an enemy by focusing on the “us vs them” rhetoric that is common for propaganda. It was found that depending on the genre of the texts, implicit or explicit homophobic rhetoric has been used to portray South Korean influence on Kazakhstani culture. The chosen text is an article on the tengrinews site, which covers one in the series of local protests against a Q-Pop band Ninety One that was influenced by K-pop.
