Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present Fr. Michael Sopoćko’s theological thought concerning the issue of the Holy Spirit’s mercy. Even contemporarily, this issue is not sufficiently present in theological literature. Mercy is, most often, attributed to the Father or to the Son. Professor Sopoćko has elaborated on this attribute concerning every divine person establishing in this way the theological basis of that cult. Sopoćko’s view on the Holy Spirit’s substance and action as merciful God opened new horizons in the field of theology. After Bl. Fr. Michael’s death, his works had an impact on the Church’s decision to unban the cult of Divine Mercy. Fr. Sopoćko’s thoughts, which remain still original and deep, are also worth applying while developing contemporary pneumatology.
