Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the role of prosody in communication and difficulties in the aquisition of L2 prosody. Against this background the authors discuss the role of suprasegmentals as seen by researchers in several papers, methodical publications and teachers’ handbooks. We could see that the provided information was fragmentary and schematic. As the main problems stress and intonation are shown, in some publications also syllable structure and vowel reductions connected with rhythmical changes. The authors suggest working out a PFL-relevan description of Polish prosody and the ways to train it.
