Summary/Abstract: A large body of theorical and empirical research have revealed that there is a positive effect of unemployment on crime. But some studies have proven the contrary that, unemployment has a negative effect on crime. Furthermore, other literature has revealed a mixed effect between unemployment and crime. In this context, this paper seeks to examine the direct effect of female unemployment on crime in a sample of 40 Sub-Saharan African countries over the period 1990-2020. By using the scatter plot and Two-Stage Least Squares(2SLS) methods, the study found a positive effect of female unemployment on crime. The econometric analysis suggests that a higher level of female unemployment increase crime.
