Summary/Abstract: One of the key aspects of the internal situation in the Ottoman Empire, and therefore in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the periods of crises; was uncertainty on public roads. The government and local feudal lords were very much interested in the protection and safety of communications and trade. This type of service was entrusted to a derbentçi organization.
