Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to question the links between the thought of otherness and the travel narratives in colonial Algeria. The writings in question contain different registers and adopt various tones. They represent an important vector in the evolution of writings of/on otherness. This analysis, anchored in a context of colonial oppression, demonstrates the various rewritings of the Algerian East, referring for example to texts written by Gautier, Fromentin, Maupassant.
