Summary/Abstract: Husbandry, although having roots in several traditions, benefited from a new and revolutionary approach in the mid seventeenth century. Based on a theory of matter advocating the idea in accordance to which the same matter is to be found in every body, members of the Hartlib Circle attributed to husbandry a double character: experimental and ameliorative. Although operational and non-speculative, one of the purposes associated with the new type of husbandry was to restore the prelapsarian position. The aim of this paper is to present how the new concept of husbandry embedded the quest for regaining the natural knowledge humans possessed prior to Fall.
