Summary/Abstract: The formation of the Second Bulgarian legion in the autumn of 1876 in Belgrade – Serbia, is an important and interesting event in the Bulgarian history. Cheated with the help of Russia, Serbia and the wealthy Bulgarian emigration with moderate political concepts from Wallachia and other places, the legion plays considerable role in the speeding of the revolutionization of the fighting and Liberty-loving Bulgarians. Its aim – to be a kind of Military Academy for the preparation of war leaders and cadres for the Bulgarian armed formations and future uprisings – is accomplished to a great degree. The examination of the Second Bulgarian legion fixes its numbers between 170–200 people and the names of 165 of them – that is 90–95% from all the participants. They are from all parts of Bulgaria – from Toulcha in Dobroudja to Ochrid and Prilep in Macedonia, from the internal parts of the country etc. Some of the villages send from 4 to 22 legionaries. Half of the participants from the legion, studied by name, after that take part most actively in the new Bulgarian voluntary armed bands and detachments or participate in the preparation of the people’s uprisings or other forms of struggle for the liberation of Bulgaria from the Turkish slavery. Many of the legionaries in the Second Bulgarian legion are killed in that struggle.
