Summary/Abstract: A regular clergy hierarchy was established in Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 4, 1881. Until its establishment a monastic order - the Franciscans - were, practically, for many centuries, to a certain extent, the political representatives of the Catholics. In other words, the Franciscan order was, due to a lack of a secular intelligentsia and because of a weak and tiny layer of bourgeoisie, the representative of the Catholic element in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
