The Youth Organization of the Democratic Party in Bulgaria (October 1920 – June 1923)

Summary/Abstract: Numerous factors differing in duration and significance had an effect on the development of the youth organizations with the Democratic Party in Bulgaria during the period under review. Those of greater importance were: the increased political activation of the young people sympathizing with the Democratic Party; the effective work of the democrats, university students, in setting up groups of young people; the assistance lent by the party activists in establishing youth sections and in their involvement in the fierce political struggles in the country. The strict adherence of the young democrats to the opposition course of their party towards the government of the Bulgarian Agrarian People’s Union accelerated the process of their political growth. The establishment of the Democratic Youth Association should be regarded as a result of the ascendant development of this process. What was achieved during the period of time examined here was a prerequisite for the consolidation of the Democratic Youth Association as one of the most influential and strong youth organizations in this country.
