Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to discuss the role of national, ethnic, and religious minorities in shaping cultural heritage and the significance of their patrimony for cultural tourism. The argumentation opens with the overview of historical and geographical conditions of settlement of various national and ethnic groups in the area in question. What follows is the outline of changes in the population structure of the region after World War II and the impact of these changes together with the state policy on the state of preservation of its multicultural heritage. The last section of the paper deals with the role currently played by objects testifying to the region’s diverse cultural heritage, particularly regarding cultural routes. The core part of the paper is based on field research carried out in the area by the author for the last several years.
