Fragments of Arad religious choral music from the first half of the 20th century

Summary/Abstract: In addition to chuch publications that played a decisive role in affirming the conseciouness of unity between the Church and the nation, the Church choirs expressed in song the same immortal values of the Romanians. With the introduction of the Romanian language in song, there was also the assimilation of the soul, which gave rise to high religious and patiotic feeling. The beginnings of church choral singing in Romanian are different in the three historical provinces. In addition to the church publications that played a decisive role in affirming the consciousness of unity between the Church and the nation, the Church choirs expressed in song the same immortal values of the Romanians. Art proved to be a fast and efficient means of reawakening and reaffirming the Romanian nation. Music is no exception to this reaffirmation, especially through the establishment of those choral reunions, which were not absent from any institution or association. Great attention is paid to theRomanian song, its cultivation and preservation. In this sense, the Decision of the Board of Directors no. 23250 / 1919 which order the teachers to collect and present to the school reviewers all the war songs, as well as other popular songs such as: doines, carols, lamentation, star songs or game songs. Every Romanian intellectual has the duty to collect such songs, to put them on notes and to make known. Arad did not lack emeritus teachers in terms of church singing and its harmonization. A teacher worth mentioning is the priest Nicolae Bâru, the teacher at the Iosif Vulcan gymnasium.
