Granting rewards and applying disciplinary measures to juveniles placed in correctional facilities

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the problem of rewards and disciplinary measures in correctional facilities. A properly conducted process of re-socialization is crucial for allowing strongly demoralized juveniles to function in society. The legal and historical framework of correctional facilities in Poland is presented, and the tools of influence in the form of rewards and disciplinary measures provided for by current legislation are discussed. The results of surveys conducted among the employees of correctional facilities allowed for illustrating the popularity and frequency of application of particular means of influence. Then a discussion of the consequences arising from the obtained results is presented and possible further research in this area suggested.
