Summary/Abstract: The article is a synthesis of selected thoughts of the eminent Polish canonist Remigiusz Sobański on the importance of Church law. This study presents the historical foundations of canon law, showing the Church as a community of a social and spiritual character. Then attention was paid to the moral and ethical approach to the legal norm. It has also been shown that canon law has its source in the sacramentality of the Church, because the law in the Church is not only used to resolve conflicts between the faithful, but it has a sanctifying character, as it should lead the faithful to salvation.
