Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to develop scientific grounds for typologizing Belarusian dictionaries of linguistic terms. The typology of terminological dictionaries is considered a method of scientific research based on the isolation of a set of dictionaries based on type – a generalized and idealized model. The problem of typology is one of the most ambiguous and least studied problems of metaterminography. Its solution is important for developing vectors for further development of the theory and practice of terminography. The classification of terminological dictionaries in linguistics has not been carried out before, since dictionaries have not been subject to a systematic scientific analysis.By employing the descriptive method and the immediate constituent analysis, the typology of Belarusian dictionaries of linguistic terms is demonstrated. It takes into account the type of contentization, the type of formalization, and the functional type of the dictionary. In accordance with the first criterion, the following dictionaries are identified: a) explanatory encyclopaedic; dictionaries-directories; terminological dictionaries proper; b) bilingual and multilingual; c) registry: projective, registration, navigation. According to the type of formalization, autonomous and incorporated dictionaries are named. In functional terms, following the indicator “purpose-function,” the author distinguishes cognitive, cognitive-regulatory, communication, communication-regulatory, cognitive-didactic, communication-didactic, procedural, navigation, and demonstration dictionaries. As regards the indicator “destination-addressee”, the author identifies segmentation and everation dictionaries. In the future, the developed typology can be used with a view to studying essential signs, functions, forms of organization of dictionaries, and identification of lacunae in the Belarusian applied terminography comparatively.
