Summary/Abstract: The questionable statement of Jordan, that “the Geti were Geths”, of these who had settled in Thrace, Dacia and Moesia after the migration of the Gethic tribes from Scandinavia to Scythia at the end of the 15th с. B.C., needs a due revision on account of the archaeological and linguistical discoveries of our time. A critical survey of the first part of Getica (§ 4–78) shows, that it possibly followed a hypothetical Getic historical heritage and was written by Jordan in his native land, earlier than the whole Getica. The Mycenaean archives in Linear В produce onomastical evidence in support of Jordan’s thesis about the relationship of the Geths with the Geti, even with the Hittites, and about their migration as far as the Balkans in the Late Bronze age. The Lin. В place names: Qota, Qotawo, Newokito, and the personal names of the type: Koto, Keto could be derived from the corresponding tribal names: Goths, Geti, Hittites. The Thracian name Kotus is both a Mycenaean relict, and at the same time an indication of a Gethic ethnic element in ancient Thrace, which could be due to the Thracians Geti.
