Summary/Abstract: Academician V. Hadjinikolov is one of the founder of the magazine and for many years its chief editor. With lots of love and a bit of nostalgia, the author tells about the establishment of the journal in the distant 1944. and about the energetic work of its first organizers, among whom were some of the most eminent Bulgarian historians – Alexander Burmov, Christo Gandev, Dimitar Kosev, Christo G. Danov, Dimitar Dimitrov and others. For just few years the “Historical Review” managed to become the most respectable journal in the field of the historical studies. On its pages found place not only the publications of the leading historians, but also of many young scholars who later became authorities in the Bulgarian historical science. V. Hadjinikolov outlines four main stages of the history of the journal and underlines that despite the application of the official Marxist-Lenininist ideology, the journal always defended the democratic spirit and attempted to illuminate objectively the various moments of the Bulgarian history. Concluding, the author expresses his hope that the oldest Bulgarian historical journal will enter proudly the XXI Century and will contribute to the prestige of the Bulgarian Historical science.
