Summary/Abstract: Despite a high degree of technological permeability, political cultures react almost differently to new forms of digital mobilization and activism. The rituals of participation and virtual communion, favorable to the civic agenda promoted by movements such as #Rezist, were accompanied by deviant electoral behaviors and populist affinities. Romanian society thus presents the image of complex civilizational territories, oscillating between vernacular and pre-modern mutations and formulas of transnational or, on the contrary, indigenous globalism. If for classical theorists of transition, democracy was based on the symmetry and balance of the relationship nationalism-statehood-political participation, the new digital democracies demand a variable intersection between modernity, westernization and the recovery and harmonization of memories and histories of communication culture.
