Summary/Abstract: Ethos refers to the self-image that a speaker builds in and through his speech. It is a concept that lies at the crossroads of several disciplines: sociology, psychology and language sciences. In addition, ethos is fundamentally an effective means of persuasion that a speaker uses by playing essentially on the affective register. Many personalities take care to build their ethos so that they manage to assert their opinions and their way of seeing. However, it sometimes happens that the discursive staging of the ethos of any speaker is, in parallel with his speech, itself discussed. We find this observation in the discussions that follow the media releases of the coach of the national team of Algeria Djamel Belmadi. Indeed, the latter projects in his speech a self-image whose linguistic imprint, fascinating some (young people especially), makes others tense (people from the press precisely). From this observation, the following questions arise: how does Djamel Belmadi's speech, as we have just said, fascinate and tense? Is it about the speaker's prior ethos? What are the determining factors of our speaker's image that he relies on in his persuasive business? To answer these research questions, we assume upstream that the speaker combines a prior ethos (his football background in particular) with a discursive ethos (patriotism, courage, leadership etc.) sometimes shown sometimes said. This work aims to carry out a descriptive analysis of the ethos of Djamel Belmadi based mainly on the works of Amossy (2010, 2014) and those of Maingueneau (2002, 2016).
