Summary/Abstract: Although the teaching of foreign languages has changed remarkably since the publication of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (2001), teaching the use of the literary text is at the crossroads of (inter)cultural and linguistic. Since 2008, on the recommendation of the European Parliament, language learning has not a singular purpose of communication, but also the formation of European citizenship. Thus, with respect for cultural diversity, the literary text should become an instrument for a creative, motivating, productive and innovative didactic. The didactic approach to this subject has engaged us in a reflection on the practical use of the literary text in FLE class. Teachers consider the literary text to be a source of motivation and knowledge that fulfils different functions, but, despite this idea, the authors of textbooks prefer articles from the written press or on the Internet, radio or TV shows. Based on this fact, this research, which is not an exhaustive approach, tries to answer questions as follows: What are the criteria for selecting a text as a medium to overcome the difficulties of understanding and communication? The methods and didactic approaches manage to push the learners to understand the literary texts and specially to consult the proposed works? Is the teacher prepared to make adequate use of the content foreseen in the manual?
