Summary/Abstract: Our study analyzes the main characteristics of the XIXth century beginning with the politic events which led to the complete transformation of the European societies, in general, and of the French society, in particular. The seven regimes of this century influenced the arts and the literature of this period. Thus, several artistic movements appeared during these one hundred years, and we focus here on the Romantic literature and arts with their main themes and representatives.
