Summary/Abstract: Trade mark is an asset, which requires constant efforts on the part of companies to be developed and to achieve a synergistic effect together with the other intangible assets. The data, however, demonstrates that the investment does pay off, given the opportunities to influence consumer choice, and in multiple geographic markets, which in turn increases the value of the entire enterprise. The article is focused on the increasing role of TM for market performance, then provides a broad, albeit unpretentious, overview of the history and approach of the EU regarding the harmonization of the regulation of the “EU trademark” institute.
