Summary/Abstract: A quintessential satire of the early nineteenth-century British world, William Makepeace Thackeray’s Vanity Fair is a panoramic tour of the Victorian society with a focus on social strata and their inclination to vanity. The present paper aims to render the novelist’s perception of the world as an animated fair where human nature unveils its most hidden character traits. This fair which may be a literary artifice employed by its creator to satirise society, but its mechanisms hold general validity.
