Summary/Abstract: Conference Interpretation means, for the objectives of this contribution, simultaneous interpretation. Simultaneous interpretation conveys a message in real time under the pressure of time. This straightforward statement, which captures in essence what happens in simultaneous interpretation belies the complexity of the activity, and the degree of difficulty which ensues from it. One of the immediate complexities which an interpreter faces at any given time in the booth, throughout their activity, is that of the message. The message is constantly multi-layered and needs to be understood and rendered at several levels at once, in terms of the wording, of the intention of the speaker, and in terms of its impact on the public. The present contribution suggests semantic and pragmatic strategies for the analysis of the message in conference interpretation, as well as its rendition into the target language. The working languages are English and Romanian.
