Digital Currencies and Foreign Exchange Risk: Present and Future

Summary/Abstract: The development of the information and communication technologies have contributed to the digitalization process in the field of international finance and foreign exchange market. The spread of information for various events has accelerated and thus the fluctuations of the exchange rates on the international markets have increased significantly. Moreover, digital currencies enlarge their presence on the market and the share of electronic payments rises. The purpose of the paper is to present the fundamental types of digital currencies and to review their foreign exchange risk.
