Summary/Abstract: The newly-appointed consul of the Federal Republic of Germany to Timișoara, Her Excellency Regina Lochner, was received on 26 August 2021, by His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan, at the metropolitan residence in Timișoara. The meeting took place as Her Excellency wished to become acquainted, communicate and collaborate with the main institutions of the city, as well as the Christian churches and denominations present there. During the meeting, discussions addressed several topical issues concerning the German community and the ecclesiastical, economic and cultural life of Banat. Talks also addressed the acute issue of the migrants – especially those coming from Afghanistan, who arrive at Timișoara in their attempt to reach western Europe – as well as the efficient solving of this problem. Metropolitan Ioan pointed out that the Eparchial Centre of Timișoara has often provided migrants’ shelters with substantial aid, consisting in food and items of essential necessity, while similar actions have been conducted by the eclesiastical and lay associations, foundations and organizations in the region. In her turn, consul Regina Lochner underscored the fact that the situation of migrants must be addressed and that prompt, efficient solutions are needed in order to solve this problem, with the joint contribution of European and local bodies.
