Summary/Abstract: This study aims to investigate the state of office ergonomics and its linkage with employees’ physical health working in domestic private banks of Pakistan. A questionnaire is used to survey the 265 employees working in Karachi branches of 22 domestic private banks in Pakistan. The results reveal that employees suffer from discomfort in the body. About 40% of respondents have mild discomfort. However, a high discomfort level is found in the back, shoulder and neck. On the assessment of the physical arrangement of branches, the design of the office is also not to be satisfactory, particularly chairs height in connection with the table seem to be the cause of physical discomfort in employee’s body. There is a big issue about office design because of adult body size and height. Psychosocial factors are also found to be the cause of stress: job demand, job control, social support from supervisors and colleagues, rest breaks from the computer, worklife balance, and work pace found to be related to stress among employees. This stress is also found to be related to employees’ health. The survey further reveals that 90% of employees are not provided any office ergonomics guidelines by their employers. Two-third of respondents has not attended any office ergonomics awareness training in their careers. The results are indicators for in-depth study for further analysis.
