Summary/Abstract: The criminological research methodology deals with the study of methods and techniques used to investigate the criminal phenomenon, aiming to integrate them into a logical and coherent system according to certain guiding principles. The methods by which quantitative and qualitative research can generally be conducted are: - the use of surveys and sampling; - the use of ethnographic studies; - the use of undercover investigation. In other cases, criminological methods and techniques have been interrelated and practically merged into those single 'methods in action', leading to differentiated analyses and results in terms of crime assessment, as follows: - criminal statistics; - crime rates; - Uniform Crime Reports- UCR; - National Incident Based Reporting System- NIBRS; - National Crime Victimization Surveys-NCVS; - Self-Report Crime Surveys-SRS; - study concerning the costs of crime; - study concerning the fear of crime.
