How Half A Century Ago We Considered the Task of Perpetuating the April Epic

Summary/Abstract: In the publication, based on unused documents and personal memoires of the authoress, an active participant in all celebrations of April epic so far, are briefly followed up in brief three basic major tasks of the Sts Cyril and Methodius National Library, fulfilled, though not in compliance with the original plan, in the course of half a century. The accent in the paper is put on the last large-scale national idea of the Library to carry out with international co-operation the tracing, bibliographic registration and scientific-critical publication of the thousands pieces of information brought out in the Bulgarian and world periodical press in 1876 as a “media corpus” in two separate parts, in this way proving the definitely great response and international solidarity of the world democratic public which played a positive role in the liberation of the Bulgarian people from five centuries of Turkish yoke.
