Summary/Abstract: Bucharest can lose gradually its historical buildings, with architectural and environmental value. Valuable buildings have been declassified, in order to be demolished by various local and foreign businessmen, other buildings have been kept with no discernment, thus obstructing the correct city development. In the middle of this chaos there are still investors who understand the value of buildings they own: the mid to late XIXth century buildings which had been owned by the local aristocracy or great bourgeoisie from, then in full ascension. They were the investors who have chosen to rehabilitate not demolish the buildings and replace them with new ones. This paper refers to the preservation and rehabilitation of three such buildings in Bucharest: two of them are listed as historical monuments and have been protected as such by law; the other one is not listed, but had the chance to have an owner who apreciated its value. In all three cases, rehabilitation included consolidation, preservation and upgrade, respectively a modern technical equipment, operations assuming collaboration between professionals from various fields.
