REHABILITATION OF OLD SOCIAL RESIDENTIAL ENSEMBLES. THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE

Summary/Abstract: The solution for the residences crisis can only be global and imply the promoting of politics aimed simultaneously at reconsidering the residential spaces, the conversion of other types of spaces (industrial, historical etc.) and lastly at developing new constructions. The current economical crisis has only increased the difficulty of the former situation, aggravating the number of persons who should benefit from social residences. The residences are part of the non valuable architectural heritage, being a response of the most acute situation of the modern era – the residence problem of persons with a particular social status. All the rehabilitations have benefited by the principles of sustainable development through the investment of important sums of money and the latest scientific technologies for the establishment or rehabilitation of constructions in order to make them as sustainable as possible, easy to exploit and as assimilable as possible for their habitants. If more money would be invested in these residences, the subsequent problems would decrease significantly. The financial savings for construction materials in this sector can only increase the costs of exploitation.
