Summary/Abstract: From its very publishing in 1999, Georgi Gospodinov’s book Natural novel has been greatly applauded by the Bulgarian critics, being republished already six times as well as translated into over ten languages. Its topic is almost trite: a young couple on the verge of separation have to reach an understanding regarding sharing their mutual belongings. Hence the story seems to unreel very slowly and unforeseeably. Truth be told, the text represents a mixtum compositum, a fiction impossible to arrange in an apparent order, decipherable only in postmodern key. Natural novel is a book about Bulgaria of the 90’s, about how we were as well as about how we are.
