Summary/Abstract: In this paper are discussed the two last novels of Vladimir Sorokin, The Day of the Oprichnik and Sugar Kremlin. Being a sort of author’s return to the classic tradition of Russian novel, of Russian literature, these works are dealing about the role of Russian writer facing Power and life in contemporary Russia. Using the anti-utopian mask and describing late medieval Russian of the tsar Ivan the Terrible, Vladimir Sorokin struggles using the weapons of literature with the autocratic tendencies of nowadays power structures in Russia, mainly being interested in the active role of the writer and no more in revolutionary expressive choices.
