Summary/Abstract: Edward Said's major work, Orientalism, demonstrates the pernicious effects of the perpetuation of certain fallacies about knowledge on the peoples of the Middle East and others who have been in no position to resist the political implications of this sort of knowledge when it is applied by Western scholars and the governments they serve, directly or indirectly. In this essay I hope to deepen Said's analysis as it concerns knowledge in its various guises, a process which I believe will radicalize his already disturbing conclusions. My research on the roots of the Nazi Movement has deepened my appreciation of Said's Orientalism, especially ofthe centrality ofthe 'Other.'
